The Toilet of Venus (oil painting
by Boucher, 1750) |
This puzzle features a highly ornamented top edge, with cupids all along it's curved surface.
About the painting:
The Toilet of Venus was commissioned in 1750, to decorate Madame de Pompadour's sumptuous cabinet de toilette at the Château de Bellevue. Many symbols in the painting depict various aspects of the goddess of Love. Venus is always attended by cupids and doves. The pearls associate with her mysterious origin in the sea, and the flowers with her role as patroness of gardens.
